Soft sorage furniture

 No, I am not talking about sofas and poufs - I am talking about wardrobes! We have seen some examples of textile used in storage furniture, but this already becomes a stable trend: the 26 years old German designer Meike Harde's textile furniture series London consists of a wardrobe, a cabinet as well as a bag-like storage object.
The Organisers from Tent and Super Brands London invited Meike Harde to participate at SUPER DESIGN GALLERY during the Design Festival.

We know the designer from her ingenious Zieharsofika collection that appeared last year and I think that this direction of her new designs is part of the beginning of new trend in furniture design.

Complete overlap between trends in fashion and interior design

at least what concerns colours, as we can see from the ELLE's New York Fashion Week trend reports:

- black and white is proving its staying power:

- pastels:

- metallics:

And in interior design:
Pastels are a major trend in interior design since the beginning of the year, as we have seen from the first design events and untill the latest ones:

The London Design Festival 2013

Two trends that I notice and that I like very much: graphic design and
African-inspired design:

Another trend in interior design that is also noticed during London Design festival 2013 is the renewal of eclectic.

Fashion and interior design - Marble Inspired Trend

Timeless yet modern - marble. It is present in our lives since ancient times - outdoors and in interiors. Now it appears in fashion and dinnerware. A beautifully delicate dinnerware collection inspired by the beauty of pure white Tuscan marble:

Marble, a historically striking material, evokes splendour, grace and a classical aesthetic.
 Marble look now goes into fashion, too:

This trend goes even to footwear - just have a look at  Nike's limited edition Roshe Run ‘Marble’ pack;

How do you like them? I agree with LS:N that this is definitely an example of their Neo Kitsch design direction.
And prefer the real thing which, as you can see in many of my posts, is symbol of elegance, unlike the immitations above. Still, these are just another example of the strong trend about the mutual influnece between fashion and interior design.

A bathroom for the modern nomads

One of the most characterisitic trends in modern lifestyle is the theme about modern nomads, as we have already talked here and in my article at Clippings.com.
Now we have a continuation on the theme with this unusual bathroom furniture by Collection Alexandra:

Quite unusual idea, but definitely a great way to keep modern nomads in good mood while staying at home :)

The charm of pastels in interior design

Pastels are one of the 2013 trends for interior design, as we have seen earlier. They provide the calmness we are all looking for. With their soft tones pastels create a charming atmosphere at home.

For a young and fresh mood add one or two popping strong colour accents as in the example above.
It is possible to add the pastels only through furniture in a monochromatic room and then suddenly it looks bright and elegant:

Interior design trends 2013

There are several distinct trends in interior design and decorating that seem to gain popularity this year:
pastels pastel colours stood out and showed up in the new spring collections of many home furniture and accessories brand during all the major design events this year - IMM Cologne and Maison&Objet in January and Milan Furniture Fair this month. And that is for a reason - pastels bring the calm and happy atmosphere in our homes that we are all looking for.

- stripes - as we know, fashion and interior design have a lot in common. Trends from fashion world soon appear in our homes. We are seeing a lot of stripes on catwalks this spring, so expect them to become the new fashion for your home, too, very soon.

- copper was one of the big themes during Milan design week 2013 and probably will continue to be in fashion for long;
- reclaimed wood: recycling, re-purposing and reusing old furniture and home decor accessories will continue to be a hot trend in interior design this year, too. And this is not just a fashionable trend. Due to its seasoned and air-dried nature reclaimed wood is a prefered material which, unlike the generic MDF or plastic alternatives, makes each piece of solid reclaimed wood furniture unique.

And finally one trend that I like very much - blurring the boundaries between indoors and the garden/patio is absolutely a booming trend for the last couple of years. With the summer just a few weeks away it is the right time to think of your outdoor retreat, even if this is just your balcony. With the proper home furniture and accessories it is not difficult to transfer the vacation atmosphere at home.
