"The chips are clear polymers that contain hollow micro-channels lined with living organ cells and blood capillary cells that can be manipulated to replicate organ functions. The chips are a form of cell-culture, but a marked advancement on existing models in terms of their accuracy in predicting the effects of untested drugs on human organs. The longterm aim of the chips, once the technology is perfected, is to replace human and animal testing in medicine, speed up the discovery of new drugs, and decrease the cost and risk of such drugs' development." Following the initial selection process, the Jury of the 2015 Interior Innovation Award - organised by the German Design Council for Imm Cologne - granted the Almora and Tabano armchairs, designed by Doshi Levien and Patricia Urquiola respectively, both for B&B Italia, the title of “Interior Innovation Award - Winner 2015”. The armchairs will be presented at a special exhibition dedicated to the Award, and will remain in the running for the title of “Interior Innovation Award - Best of Best 2015”, to be granted by the Jury as part of the second selection process, to be held during IMM Cologne.![]() |
