Interior Design Trends that will stay in 2018

As I said earlier, it is obvious that velvet will continue to be one of the favourite textiles this year, too. But it goes quite well with the Art deco style that was revived a few years ago, especially with the new versions of The Great Gatsby. We see all this in the new releases of Longwave by Diesel with Moroso

and Promenade by Philippe-Nigro for Thonet:

Soft, rounded forms in furniture - which is obvious from both examples above and below:

Terrazzo - this wonderful new/old material will continue to be widely used, because of the numerous possibilities it gives for interior designers, architects and decorators:

These are just a few from the interior design trends that are probably to stay in 2018, too, and may inspire you for your new home or home renovation.

"After years of shiny metallics we’ve finally gone a little bit soft. Super-Texture is our first foray into weaving, sewing and embellishing where we look at extreme textures of velvets, boucles and knits. "
SUPER TEXTURE is the name of the first ever collection of textiles created by Tom Dixon and it is going to be presented at the coming MAISON&OBJET in PARIS this January:

Warm and cosy under our feet

It is time to think about adding more warmth and cosyness in our homes. Carpets and rugs are a simple way to achieve this while changing the whole atmosphere in the room.
Warp & Weft - Highlands
Some beautiful new products -  Highlands collection above by  warpandweft.com is made using a silktweeding technique, which interweaves Indian mulberry silk with unbleached Himalayan wool and. below:

Mexican designer Liliana Ovalle's abstract pattern La Lomita carpet for Nodus Rug is in wool and silk and is made in Nepal using handcrafted methods.
Paola Lenti - Spin
Cords, braids, knitted tubular fabrics, conceived by Paola Lenti and produced exclusively for the Brand, are loom woven, hand tufted or simply sewn, to create rugs and mats which are unique for their aesthetics, chromatic effect and functionality.
But, if you want something exotic and follow the very popular trend for hand-made designs and also the new love for felt, you may buy a shyrdak felt rug  - a type of felt invented by nomadic tribes 2,500 years ago to insulate and decorate yurts. They are usually hand-made in Central Asia, especially in Kyrgyzstan.

Vivid Dreams

from DwellStudio - they update a traditional chinoiserie pattern with a bold palette of citrine and turquoise in this 400-thread-count cotton Peacock duvet cover, mentioned in the latest design trends for your home for July/August 2010 on elledecor.com.
But if that is too bright for you,

Great design is not only for grown ups. You can pamper your little ones with this Transportation Multi Bedding Collection - a new pattern which combines retro versions of familiar transportation icons like buses, yellow cabs, bicycles and even a Zeppelin and directional signs with a brightly colored, high-contrast palette to stimulate a little one's developing eyesight and imagination.

Some more suggestions for applying this trend in your home decor:

Tie-Dye Gossamer is a unique fabric and makes super backdrops. It's also a wonderful accent for columns, walls, windows, tables, and ceilings.Versatile, non-woven gossamer is lightweight and sheer, making it ideal for draping and swagging. Layer the gossamer to create deeper, more opaque colors. For a sheer, wispy appearance, use a single layer of gossamer.

Rugs are Getting Unexpected Forms - Furoshiki rug

Rugs are Getting Unexpected Forms lately - remember the interesting Gandia Blasco’s carpet MANGAS designed by Patricia Urquiola and presented at the Salone in Milan? Now the
Furoshiki rug by TemaHome - its unusual symmetric shape adds an impression of motion, along with an eye-pleasing, three-colour pattern which initially seems random, but is actually a well-constructed puzzle worthy of oriental logic. Its name remounts to the popular Japanese technique of gift-wrapping, which transforms most everyday items into smart-looking presents right from the outside. In reference to the Japanese wrapping technique, that protects objects for transport, the Furoshiki seams like a folded cloth. The rug’s pattern combines 6 different colours and is produced by hand in 100% wool from New Zealand. Created by the Portuguese designer Miguel Vieira Baptista.

Rug Art - The Most Comfortable Interior Decor

Rugs have their origin in the most ancient times - people have long ago discovered their warmth and power to create coziness. They have probably been one of the first furnishings and until today they remain one of the most comfortable interior decorations -

"As hard surfaces continue to be the flooring of choice for houses and
boutique
hotels, the vibrancy of the latest area rugs belies their central
sound-dampening role, both as a covering underfoot and as wall
decorations. "
The example above and the quotation are from Metropolitan's article "New Wave Rugs"
by Paul Makovsky about "the burst of bold, colorful carpets and rugs at the
International Contemporary Furniture Fair, in New York". Tufenkian's Flower Power Pixie above is handwoven and hand-knotted carpet, from the Core Tibetan collection, but it is possible to achieve this art effect with a piece that is much more affordable.
With a single carpet like anyone of these below you can make a room cozy and furnished. And each of these has the power to create a certan style and atmosphere.

3'6" x 5'6" Rectangular Area Rug - Fusion by Oriental Weavers Sphinx Art Works Collection

Fusion by Oriental Weavers Sphinx Art Works Collection: Each of their rugs conveys an individual vision and is unique in its production... first hand-tufted, then carefully embossed by hand to enhance the design and washed individually to add sheen to the surface. Made in India, completely handcrafted, these rugs feature 100% wool.
Rolling Meadow Rug (5' x 8') Rolling Meadow Rug
Constructed in 100% wool with ribbons of muted color that ebb and swell, Angela Adams' flowing rug becomes a graceful interior landscape. Both stunning and original, it conveys the variety and charm of nature's seasonal palate. Like all of Adams' carpets and rugs, Rolling Meadow honors the tenets of Rugmark - the global non-profit whose mission is to end illegal child labor in textile manufacturing.
Birch Designer Wool Rug (5' x 8') I like the luxury of this Birch Designer Wool Rug : handmade from plush, dense sheepskins that are hand selected from the finest of Australian sheep flocks and transformed into the highest quality leather by craftsmen tanners. They are then meticulously cut, matched and stitched into intricately patterned shearling rugs.

Rugs for children's rooms should not only furnish and decorate - they should answer to much more requirements connected with safety.
