Vertical Garden - Organic Balcony Gardening

Who would not love to have fresh herbs and vegetables for their everyday meals? Don't have garden? Growing your own organic vegetables even if you live in the city is not such an impossible dream. If you're looking for a unique way to grow your own food, stop thinking horizontally - with a vertical garden you can do it on your balcony, too. Especially vegetables that don’t take a lot of space to grow and produce more are ideal for growing on the balcony. And you can make things easier if you use vertical garden planters like these:

Garden Tower®

The Garden Tower

With a vertical planter like the one above you can grow up to 50 plants if you have four square feet of space!

Today there is a wave of innovative ideas for urban dwellers to grow plants and herbs in limited space like, for example, these Green Pockets is the name of these ingenious wall tiles by Maruja Fuentes - an architect and a professor at the International School of Design of the Turabo in Puerto Rico. A great tool for creating a living wall in your home or office. They are also green because they are produced from re-used materials.

Vertical gardens are a stunning addition to any home and I have posted earlier about Urban wall garden with magnetic pots in one of my other blogs,

but they probably have a more decorative purpose, while The Garden Tower seems to be the most compact and practical.

Today space and natural resources have become a very rare commodity, especially in the cities. And, as we continue to stay longer at our homes, may be it is a good idea to think about your own organic garden, at least for part of the vegetables and herbs that you use. Also, vertical gardening is a great way to maximize your living space and enhance the beauty and enjoyment of your home. Vertical gardens are comparatively easy to create, customize and care for and a great possibility for city dwellers to grow their organic vegetables.

Trends: Warmth with natural stones

According to Elle Decor, there is a general trend (which I completely agree with) towards warmer, earth tones, including the bathroom. And there we notice a desire to replace white marble in favor of stones with warmer hues like travertine and limestone. I can confirm that from what my latest clients chose for their two bathrooms - travertine walls and travertine-like floor tiles:
The master bathroom in my latest project

And the second one which is still not completed with lighting:

I suppose that now, when we are going to spend more time at home, this trend towards warmer hues will become popular.

The curtains of the very near future

like, for example 2020, will be able to filter the air for you! That is almost reality - a mineral-based surface treatment enables the new IKEA curtain to break down air pollutants when it gets in contact with light, explains the company on their press page:
"The GUNRID air purifying curtain is a new step on the journey.
“Besides enabling people to breathe better air at home, we hope that GUNRID will increase people’s awareness of indoor air pollution, inspiring behavioural changes that contribute to a world of clean air,” says Lena Pripp-Kovac, Head of Sustainability at Inter IKEA Group. “GUNRID is the first product to use the technology, but the development will give us opportunities for future applications on other textiles.”
The curtain uses a unique technology, which has been developed by IKEA over the last years together with universities in Europe and Asia as well as IKEA suppliers and innovators. The way it works is similar to photosynthesis found in nature. The process is activated by both outdoor and indoor light.
“For me, it’s important to work on products that solve actual problems and are relevant to people. Textiles are used across homes and by enabling a curtain to purify the air, we are creating an affordable and space-saving air purifying solution that also makes the home more beautiful,” says Mauricio Affonso, Product Developer at IKEA Range & Supply.
