Milan Moments

 I cannot still manage to organize my impressions and photos from Milan design Week 2022 - it IS impossible to see and then analyze even half of what was on show at the grounds of Rho Fiera, even more on all areas or Fuorisalone, but I want to share some of the most impressive moments from my stay that I have succeeded to capture:

This is the entrance at half past 8 in the morning of the 1st day

Have you seen the Piano House?

Although it is not at all new, I had not seen it and now I just cannot but share what I saw! Yes, it looks like a real paiano and has an entrance like a real violin made of glass that leads to the escalator up to the piano floor, with an auditorium and classrooms for  college students. It is designed by the Huainan Fangkai Decoration Project Co. studio and is located in Huainan, China. The Piano and Violin house was built in 2007 and serves as showroom for exhibiting the plans for newly created district of Shannan in Huainan City, China.

"I would like to live here"

was my first thought when I saw this photo:
I was fascinated with the view and with the way it was framed by the elegant window. Then I saw the rest of the photos and although I respect the idea and its implementation, I do find it a little boring to live surrounded only by wood. I like wood and prefer it as a material, but still think that it should be complemented by other materials and colors.

Levitation in Design

Obviously overcoming gravitation is an irresistible dream for human beings and designers are trying to achieve it in all possible ways. I have written about the levitating lamp by Angela Jansen and this became may be the most popular post of my blog. Even only a seeming levitation appears to be sufficient to invest in such a project - Lago's inspirational Flutua bed that seems to be floating in the air is one of my favourites, too. Now we can see a whole similarly 'levitating' house (above)!In fact it is just a fantastic play with materials, surfaces and shapes.

 During Dutch Design Week this October Crealev, the creator of the Levitating lamp, introduced its new brand of floating product displays ‘Out of This Place’. On display were the lightest Jordan basketball shoes ever made, floating, a CLM-2 levitation kit capable of carrying 10 kilogram, a miniature bust for jewelry display and a floating iPad dock. Additionally, floating lamps Silhouette #1 and Eclipse #1 made their appearance.

Sofia Architecture Week - "Being Peripheral"

Sofia Architecture Week (SAW, 15- 22 of October) is one of the most interesting events in Bulgaria dedicated to architecture. It is an annual international architecture festival, a platform for dialogue and exchange of ideas between people who are actively engaged in the problems of their environment. This is its 3rd edition and its aim "is to build up a critical mass of urban scenarios which generate good architectural and social practices." It has a topical theme - Being Peripheral - "Living in the periphery is not just a geographic, political and economic condition, but a state of mind, too."

The program has two modules taking place in very peculiar places: 
Forum – a two-day international conference which took place on October 16 and 17 at the former Communist party’s house in Sofia (left).

Open House – the festival’s free access program which will be held between October 15 and 22 at the Central Mineral Baths in Sofia

One of the most interesting and inspiring presenters Aneta Kamenova-Bulant, Architect and cofounder of Bulant & Wailzer Austria, talked about "Architecture of the present". The studio is famous with their innovative use of glass in architecture which has brought them many prestigious awards in Austria, Germany, and France, and in 2001 Aneta Bulant was awarded the Golden Vizar. Their glass bridges in Vienna also won them the highly valued good design award at the 2007 Chicago Athenaeum.

With examples of her work and sharing  her experience Aneta Bulant showed the fascinated audience that "Peripheral situation is not negative - when a person is satisfied with his work he stays firmly in the center."

I cannot withstand the desire to publish this photo - probably this is the most beautiful and most feminine building of hers I have seen
