The forms of luxury in interior design today

Yes, we are again talking about luxury in interior design - after several years of dominating phrases like economic crisis and recession, it seems now that people are willing to think of investing in luxury design. It can have difference face, depending on the personal tastes, but all forms of luxury in interior design must have one thing in common - high quality and great design. I just came accross these impressive living spaces that are a perfect example of what luxury in interior design can look like:

Sophisticated Luxury with Art Nouveau influence. I am fascinated with the the hallway and especially how the peacock feather stained glass panel fits perfectly with all the other elements in this elegant Avenue Montaigne apartment in Paris, designed by Louis Henri Buhrmann. Well, not all the spaces are to my taste, but this hallway is an example of great interior design with retro elements!

Modern design can have this strong luxurious feel, too. Have a look at this wonderful kitchen by Auhaus Architecture:

Here luxury is not only in materials used, but also in design ideas - certainly there is no other one like it!

Luxury is also in comfort and perfect details, added to great architecture and good design like in this dream home in Lakeview Residence in Texas by Alterstudio Architecture:

Interior Design Ideas: retro kitchen with a hi-tech heart

We are happy today to live in time when high technology helps us in every area of life and especially in everyday activities in the kitchen. But in our modern world of stress and speed we find often that we are in a mood for retro style - it brings the warmth and calm of old times.


 One place where it will fit best is your kitchen. I have found some excellent examples of retro style kitchens:
Operà (left) by Marchi Cucine  is a good choice - large and spectacular it perfectly combines tradition and modernity. The doors are oak with semi-gloss coating, the large suspended hood is in steel and solid oak brushed black, with a convenient rack for pots.Contemporary looking with traditional and old world elements, especially the island with its original molded doors.

Sassi Neri by Cantori kitchens- a truly freestanding kitchen, an original alternative to fitted kitchens. It can be re-adapted to fit in any setting with individual blocks that can be placed side by side, tall units, wall units and shelves. Design: Roberto Garbugli
The counter seen from the rear features the same panels as the base units, photographed with the steel and solid wood stools and the Margutta lamps.

Milan 2009: Patricia Urquiola for Moroso

MoCo Loco have published the new designs of Patricia Urquiola for Moroso that will be launched at Milan Design Week this April. I have been expecting her new products - she is the designer who records the best achievements there each year. She is also my favourite designer and I have been following every product she has created.







As always Urquiola has the most clever practical approach - in hard times we do return to classics and established values. And what better values than the century old folk art? A revival of interest in eastern European folk art began last year and I expect that her Fergana collection will be a great success.
The other her new projects - Aden Sofa & Rift Armchair, at least in the way they look as color drawings at the moment - do not impress me.

From all these the Fergana sofa - top - is the one that best combines the beauty of folklore elements with modern design. For those that are not aware - even though it is said that she has been using Antique Uzbek techniques, wooden base accessorized with a series of richly coloured cushions has been old traditional seating for centuries also here, in Bulgaria - similar example can be seen below.

The Art of Bathroom Design

Have you noticed - bathrooms are attracting more and more attention and, as a result, bathroom design seems to have made the greatest improvement in comparison to the other elements of interior design. It does relate to art, but - opposite to many new furniture designs - it stays within the requirements for practical and comfortable everyday use.

Sophie Dream by Calyx - this new bath is made of a material soft and flexible and its shape follows that of the body in addition to the elegant frame.
