This is probably one of the most beautiful, charming and lively bedrooms I have seen. And as an interior designer with long years experience I muste have seen a lot. This room invites you to live there, not just sleep!

A glass-walled penthouse in Manchester

It is owned by the architect who designed the building, Beetham Tower, one of the tallest towers in Europe,  - architect Ian Simpson:

The Home of a Designer

It is always interesting to have a look at the homes of famous designers and see how have they designed their own interiors. Most often there is a lot to learn from them. Such is the case with the Chicago apartment of Gensler principal and firmwide design leader Carlos Martínez - I like the design in almost all the pictures, published by Interior Design magazine. They are an example of good design work. Have a look and you may be tempted to borrow some ideas :)

Houses of the Famous - Monk's Cottage

I just came across the pictures of actor Tony Shalhoub's Martha's Vineyard Cottage, playing the sympathetic character of Adrian Monk - a brilliant San Francisco detective, whose obsessive compulsive disorder just happens to get in the way.

 Look at the clever use of small pictures to make a simple interior elegant and artistic. The only thing that troubles my eyes here are those protruding fence planks on the bed, but I like the calmness of the atmosphere - a great place to spend summer days!

In Grand Style - Bang & Olufsen Launches Golden Colour

Bang & Olufsen have created a new line of its products available in a luxurious gold dye finish. The new release is inspired to complement luxury interiors.
In fact, the golden colour was specifically requested by the exclusive boutique hotel Villa Rothschild in Königstein, Germany. Built from 1888 to 1894 for the financier Wilhelm Carl von Rothschild, Villa Rothschild was recently awarded the coveted five-star superior status due in no small part to points earned for the bespoke golden coloured Bang & Olufsen products installed in the guest rooms as well as in the common and recreational areas.

"I chose Bang & Olufsen for the AV-installation at the completely renovated Villa Rothschild as the company is world renowned for the exquisite quality and beauty of its products," said Bernhard L. Lacroix of the hotel's management team. "However, to match the luxurious historical buildings and interiors, I specifically requested a golden coloured product line, which perfectly complements the grand style of the Villa Rothschild."

Bang & Olufsen uses a wider range of materials than most other companies in the industry. Only real materials such as aluminium, glass, rubber and wood are used, however, and all materials are carefully selected for their quality and ability to fit naturally into any home environment.
Their skills within aluminium finishing made it possible for Bang & Olufsen designers to develop the very exclusive golden hue which will now be added to the existing colour range.

However, to preserve the exclusivity of the golden colour, only selected products - including some of Bang & Olufsen's most iconic video and audio products as well as a range of complementary loudspeakers - can be ordered as golden variants, and there will be a premium price for the golden colour which will be made to order only.

Luxury in Kitchens

Subdued luxury is the trend for this year in interior design. What is luxury when we are talking about kitchens? For me it is not exactly glitter and precious materials. It can be this gorgeous minimalist look with curved elegant forms - we are not made to work at straight lines. At a time when the kitchen is the new entertainment room where preparing food is a communal activity, it is ultimate luxury to have a well designed ergonomic workspace like this one (left) wich the Pedini Kitchen offers you.

Space can be luxury, too.

In a Greenwhich Village apartment, designer Thomas Britt melded comfort and exoticism.

says architectural designer Peter Napolitano. The elongated custom cabinetry plays off the large windows. And the paint of the cupboards bleds with the walls -as a result the room looks much more spacious.

Here is a rule for best kitchen design, by Madonna's brother, who designed not only her kitchen, but also the majority of her New York apartment:

“You get the best appliances and work around them. But the only reason there’s a microwave is that Madonna likes to make popcorn.”

The kitchen is in direct contrast to the main living areas (below), a combination of white tile and stainless steel. The space is useful but small, made for intimate gatherings. “I don’t like rooms you never use or that are wasted space,” says Madonna, “but I also like a sparseness and a cleanness.” But, Ciccone adds, “Madonna doesn't cook much. I think she has a couple of cookbooks, and now and then she makes Rice Krispies treats, but I wanted to give her the option if she wanted to,” he jokes.

Луксът в кухнята - какво означава това? Не толкова блясък и показност, колкото удобство и качествени материали, приложени умело от добър дизайнер, за да се постигне ефективност и уют в едно от най-използваните (обикновено) помещения у дома. В кухнята по-горе няма да забележите ярка демонстрация на лукс, независимо, че това е кухната на Мадона. Проектирана е от нейния брат с мисълта, че въпреки че тя готви рядко, ако случайно реши да го прави да има стимулираща среда за това. Правилото му за успех в кухненския дизайн: "Осигурявате си най-добрите електроуреди и разработвате останалото според тях". Тук, в контраст на останалата част от апартамента, са използвани обикновени бели плочки и неръждаема стомана в малко, но удобно пространство - самата Мадона казва, че не обича "стаи, които нокога не използваш или са загуба на пространство", докато навсякъде другаде се забелязват мебели от известни дизайнери и богатата й колекция от картини на художници като Пикасо, например в офиса й. Луксозна изглежда и кухнята, направена по индивидуален проект така, че да съответства максимално на стила и пространството на останалата част от жилището - както в синята кухня в Манхатън по-горе. Тук на огромните прозорци подхождат издължени шкафове, които нарочно са боядисани в цвета на стените на цялата дневна - така чувството за простор се усилва още повече.

Но, както се видя на изложението по време на панира в Милано тази година Eurocicina 2008, заоблените ергономични форми се завръщат. И това е естествено - ние не сме създадени да работим по права линия. Самата природа предпочита заоблените форми, а и много по-удобно е да не заобикаляме ръбове и ъгли в кухнята. Луксът тук е инвестицията в нови технологии и материали, които ни позволяват да постигнем тази лекота и елегантност, демонстрирани от кухнята DUNE на Pendini (най-горе). Но за по-икономичен бюджет подобен ефект би могъл да се постигне и с по-достъпни материали.

Удоволствие е да се разглеждат къщите, проектирани от известни майстори - като Франк Лойд Райт, например. Ето снимки от William P. Boswell House в Indian Hill, Ohio, които не са много известни:
кухнята - елегантна и добре организирана, достатъчно просторна, за да се използва и за хранене.
