Bamboo bending for creating artisanal furniture

This is a perfect piece of furniture that has also sculptural qualities:

Sebastian Herkner and craftsman Wu, Ming-an  -‘Bridge bamboo bench’

It is just one of the resulting products of the program A new layer led by the national taiwan craft research and development institute (NTCRI), which seeks to foster new relationships between taiwanese and international designers.

But according to me - the most beautiful one, which at the same time is probably quite comfortable and functional, too :) - what do you think?

Clever Design - a Growing Bookcase

Corner cupboard / bookcase that opens, made of marine plywood with natural birch veneer on the inside and painted in cobalt water blue on the outside. The central metallic element, varnished with cobalt blue powder, represents a graphic sign when the corner cupboard is closed at 90° and is revealed completely when opening it up to 180°.

Clever design - unusual switch system :)

HENG, design by Zanwen Li

HENG is the name of a series of lamps "breaking the traditional way to turn on lamps. The two balls in the wooden frames serve as switches of the lamps. As we raise the the lower ball, the two balls would be drawn together magnetically. They would float in the air and when they reach a balance, the light would be turned on. This new way of interaction brings joy to our monotonous life."

Functional Art

I like very much the idea of Functional Art and as interior designer I can say that this is probably one of the best ways to integrate art in your interiors.
Sound Reactive Smart Cloud Light - Using motion sensors the cloud detects a user's presence and creates a unique lightning and thunder show dictated by their movement.

The system features a powerful speaker system from which the user can stream music via any Bluetooth compatible device.

Using color-changing lights the cloud is able to adapt to the desired lighting color and brightness. The cloud also has alternative modes such as a nightlight and music reactive mode.

Features a powerful Philips LED bulb which provides plenty of "sunshine."

Skyline Chess Set - the skyline chess set recreates the london cityscape over the checkered black and white plane of the beloved, ever-popular board game.

Designers Ian Flood and Chris Prosser have translated traditional set pieces into prominent london landmarks, drawing from both the symbolic value of the built form as well as their role on the chess board.

Cloud Concrete Toilet Paper Storage

Multicolored Pompon Stool No.03 - manufactured completely by hand. It is upholstered with over 38 handmade wool-pompons. Measure is: seating hight 55 cm, seating diameter 43cm. Total weight is about 5kg. This object is 1of 10, made out of a vintage stool. Legs are metal.

 This beautiful masterpiece, designed by Cini Boeri in 1972, won the Compasso d'Oro international award  for outstanding achievement in the field of industrial design. The seat system Strips, composed of sofas, armchairs, beds and chaise longue, is exhibited in museums all around the world.

ICFF 2016 - the North American platform for International design has just finished - it took place from May 14th to 17th in New York City. Let's have a look to a selection of impressive new designs:
