Milan Moments

I cannot still manage to organize my impressions and photos from Milan design Week 2022 - it IS impossible to see and then analyze even half of what was on show at the grounds of Rho Fiera, even more on all areas or Fuorisalone, but I want to share some of the most impressive moments from my stay that I have succeeded to capture:

This is the entrance at half past 8 in the morning of the 1st day

The welcome meeting of with President Maria Porro and Marva Griffin International Press Director
and SaloneSatellite founder at my favorite Red Lounge meeting point for journalists and VIP guests.

The usual crowd with increased vitality and energy thanks also to the colourful stands.
Loud opening parties at numerous Fuorisalone locations, meeting famous faces:

Imaginative treatment of every architectural detail:

And just a few of the famous showroom windows at the famous Monte Napoleone street:

And a glimpse to one of the many palazzo installations:

Milan is design and inspiration - everywhere :)

Cork Furniture - "a new creation from the fires was born"

I have always liked cork as a material in interior design. I even have a project with cork tiles in the kitchen and livingroom of a client. But this story from Yellow Trace by By Erin Christie  inspired me further. All pieces from french designer Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance’s furniture collection made of discarded burnt cork have beautiful sculptural forms:

They are from the second installment for Made in Situ

The designed pieces are the fruits of my adventures, explorations of geological and biological textures, patterns, materials and their related techniques. Above all, my stimulation comes from human knowledge and sensitivity, linking to and embedded in each specific place.” Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance

Luxury interior design in London by Patricia Urquiola

Soft elegance, sophisticated luxury and beautiful colour scheme - this what we see from these  computer generated images for The Lincoln Square development in Bloomsbury, due for completion in February 2019.

As the designer herself explains, her project for the public areas of a residential scheme on Lincoln Square is a crossover between domesticity and public space. It is a high-end development, with the expected five-star facilities, communal and amenity space, including the private dining rooms, cinema and hotel-style lobby.

Instead of a members’ bar, residents have their own elegant library.

To mark the opening of the new luxury Lincoln Square development in the heart of Londonworld-renowned designer and architect Patricia Urquiola has designed a limited-edition handmade sand timer.

I am looking forward for more images from this elegant project. How do you like it?

Tom Dixon will unveil a textile collection at MAISON&OBJET 2018

"After years of shiny metallics we’ve finally gone a little bit soft. Super-Texture is our first foray into weaving, sewing and embellishing where we look at extreme textures of velvets, boucles and knits. "
SUPER TEXTURE is the name of the first ever collection of textiles created by Tom Dixon and it is going to be presented at the coming MAISON&OBJET in PARIS this January:

A Feast of Colours created by Hella Jongerius

Did you see this exhibition "Breathing Colour" at London’s Design Museum by the famous Dutch designer Hella Jongerius? It is a manifesto for colour, as she herself calls it:
"Breathing Colour is a manifesto for colours.
I rebel against the flatness of the conventional colour industry."

‘I think everyone has bought a piece of furniture or clothing in a certain colour, and experienced a shock when unpacking it once back at home,’ says Jongerius. ‘Most companies see the effect as problematic and try to produce colours that avoid it. But I want to make a plea for embracing metamerism.’ source: Frame

If not, then hurry - it is open from 28 June to 24 September 2017. Especially useful for designers :)

Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance - Design is a balance...

"Design is a balance between context, shape, function, material and its impact"says the designer in his latest interview on Architonic. So much agree! This is one of the best definitions of design and it works for interiors, too. Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance is one of my favourite contemporary designers - both, for furniture and interior design. Enjoy some of the best:

Beautiful design from Maison et Objet 2017

I am fascinated with the work of designer  Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, again:
st. louis crystal and noé duchaufour lawrance present the folia collection

‘Folia’ collection, as designboom writes, is "a celebration of the radiance of crystal and the strength of wood". The designer  Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance explains that ‘the cut of the folia crystal is inspired by a leaf that can tessellate to infinity or fly onto the crystal, as though a wind of folly was blowing.’

What is design?

For me design is inspiration that has the capacity to improve our lives, but listen to the answers of some of the most famous contemporary designers at the Design Talks during MilanoDesign Week 2016 from the site of Archiproducts:

Inspiration: Talented Re-use

This is how the office and private space of famous architect and designer Paola Navone looks:

Add caption
As  Marie Claire Maison says, it occupies the top floor of a renovated factory in Via Tortona - a former Milanese industrial area. "It is a very light place, she explains further. All is calm, it is an extraordinary place to detach from work, to let go during the day or to arrange appointments that require some privacy. "

"The aesthetics of imperfection fascinates me. It can mend things to give them a second chance. "
