Fashion Meets Design

This is one of the most loved themes by my readers here and a definitely popular trend in contemporary interior design. Now I found a beautiful illustration about this trend and cannot but share it with you:

Armani Casa this year presented elegant, deco inspired pieces which are obviously in harmony with the new Art Deco revival trend.

A floor lamp with a personality

Its name is Stewie and it was designed by Italian designer Luca Nichetto who seems to be one of the rising stars of modern design - with his his dream house in the Das Haus – Interiors on Stage project for the 2013 edition of IMM Cologn and hisnew projects presented at Milan Design Week 2013, among wich the most talked about,   Nichetto = Nendo.

What I find interesting also about Stewie is that it represents a new typology in lighting.

The Fusion Trend

'Fusion' lighting collection by Fernando and Humberto Campana

The Fusion trend started about 7 years ago as a fascinating mix of different styles, materials and approaches to design. It utilizes in the best possible way the achievements of new technologies and ancient crafts. And the Campana brothers are a great example of designers who work in this way. This is their latest collection created for Baccarat:

Fashion Glamour at Salone 2013

It appears that, no matter what the state of design in general is, the connection between interior design and fashion gets stronger and fashion brands continue their invasion in home design market - more and more fashion lables show their home products at Salone.

A chair that completely folds away

Seen at Milan Design Week 2013:
Pythagoras is inspired by Origami techniques from the past - a plain sheet of aluminum is laser cut, and then bend into the final product. It is designed by Sander Mulder and is made of three pieces: a seat, back and a tripod of legs.

The users can choose between aluminium or oak legs:

As the designer explains, 

"The triangulated lines serve both aesthetics and function, and this chairs sturdiness and comfort will surprise anyone.

Made up from only 3 different parts, this chair displays furniture design in its purest form. A powder coat finish is used to finalize the aesthetic and structural characteristics.
Available in all RAL colours with oak or aluminum legs ( which make Pythagoras chairs suitable for outdoor use)."

Trends: Copper - one of the big themes in Milan 2013

It is not a new trend, but a development of the theme from last year: copper is a prefered material in interior design objects:

It was Tom Dixon that began to use extensively copper earlier and now continues at this Milan Design Week, too.

In search for tranquility - the pastel trend at Milan Design Week 2013

 "Ro", which means tranquility in Danish, is the name of the latest creation of Spanish designer Jaime Hayon for Republic of Fritz Hansen, unveiled this week in Milan. This new easy chair is available in nine colours, which, as you can see, are mostly pastels:

How to make the best from a disaster

When the Italian marble specialist Budri’s warehouses in Mirandola, northern Italy, were hit by last year’s earthquake in Northern Italy, the Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola decided to draw something positive from the disater and the result was the Earthquake 5.9 collection of wall and floor coverings, shelving and  tables in marble and onyx, created using hundreds of fragments of quake-struck slabs:

Lights dressed in high fashion

This is the project of Atelier Yooj, located in Milan's Navigli neighborhood, place where the designer Jeong-Ah Yoo gives life to unique and elegant wedding dresses. 


Dressing and re-dressing your light can become an enjoyable game:  Axo Light and the Japanese designers Yuuka Miyazono and Ryosuke Fukusada presented the exhibition Dressing the Light with a collection of lights ‘dressed’ in sartorial details inspired by high fashion.
 
Each light becomes a high fashion outfit sewn around the lamp. Lamp shades of various sizes are dressed with hand sewn fabrics and finished with beautiful buttons, button holes,  visible stitching and – as in the world of children's dolls – you can change and alter the ‘dresses’ as you want. Unusual designs, materials, and combinations at Salone 2013

Coat rack "Song" from Arper

Hanging Canvas furniture by Japanese design studio YOY, shown off at Milan Design Week 2013. Each piece's frame is made out of wood and aluminum, covered in elastic fabric screen-printed with drawings of different types of furniture.
