My blog is presented at Floor Coverings International!

I am happy to share that I was interviewd by Floor Coverings International, North America’s leading in-home design floor coverings brand! For my readers that want to learn more about Trendoffice and me I am posting a part of the interview here below, but, if interested, you can read the whole text on their site

"Floor Coverings International Calgary is pleased to bring you the latest installment in our Designer Influencer Interview Series, an interview with Temenouzhka Zaharieva of TrendOffice. Temenouzhka runs a successful design consultancy and website.  You can follow Temenouzhka on Facebook.

Please tell us a little about yourself.
I discovered Interior Design the year after graduating with Masters in Informatics and a certificate in Journalism. The profession of interior designers was not at all popular in Bulgaria at that time. The work of interior designers was done by architects. But I have always been interested in beautiful things, in arts and drawing. And after living 6 months in New York I discovered that I can study interior design from a distance. When coming back to Sofia I did a research and found that Rhodec International offers the most thorough home study interior design course and I started my the Professional Diploma Course in Interior Design.

Why did you decide to start a design blog?

My blog Trendoffice somehow makes the connection with my earlier professional qualifications – its name shows my interest in the sociological importance of trends in interior design. I do believe that “Trends follow our direction of thought, expressing the mood of the present and the style of the future”, that customers’ choices show us the directions in which society is going.
That is why I am always looking for repeating patterns and publish regularly about those trends in my blog. This may be of use both – to my readers, who sometimes become my customers, and to the companies that produce and sell everything connected with interior design. Which helps me also with my current work as Digital Marketing Manager for a construction, renovation and interior design company.

What do you enjoy about blogging?

Blogging is the perfect form of expressing personal opinion without mediators, like in all other forms of publishing. At the same time with blogs you can reach a very wide audience and make yourself heard. On the other hand, I do believe also that we have to be well informed in order to make our best choices in life and since interior design is the profession which helps people live in the best possible way, we must tell people how useful it can be. With my blog I hope that I provide my readers with a curated selection of the freshest, most innovative, best design ideas in the world, which will inspire them for their own projects and at the same time it keeps me connected with many known and unknown professionals. Blogging is the best way to get people acquainted with the products and new developments of companies like Floor Coverings International.
In fact I started writing about interior design several years before starting my first blog and I have numerous publications in printed media and on-line, which made it necessary to create another blog where I post some of the articles that have already been published somewhere else. Something like my on-line journalistic portfolio. And I have a 3rd blog where I publish photos of my finished interior design projects.

How do you stay on top of the latest design trends?

Thank you, Jordan Mason! It was pleasure for me to share my thoughts with you and your readers!

The Face of Interior Design 2008 - Trends

Happy New Year! What will it bring to interior design? There is an abundancy of trendspotting and forecasting articles and many of them contain some common trends - like the announced earlier by Pantone Blue Iris for color of 2008, (Pantone's Color of the Year Is... - New York Times), now added is the yellow featured by International Team of colour experts at ICI Paints as part of the 2008/2009 themes. "These are not the colors the design industry is telling you to use, these are the colors the design industry thinks you subconsciously want to use," writes Susan Fornoff, Chronicle Staff Writer

I think that trends are just floating in the air and it is the creative people like artists and designers that first sense them. Then they incorporate these into their works. What the agencies are doing, is just to report what they have found (or to try to influence the public). Still, most of the trends that appear are connected with the state of our society and the way we think at the moment. That is why these choices of colours for the year 2008 may have their reason - "Yellow has, almost more than any other hue, the ability to convey a mood of warmth, sociability and welcome". But yellow is naturally present in the flower itself and combined with the thoughtfulness, calmness and magic of blue iris it confirms the trend of juxtaposition of warm and cool in search of a relaxing environment.
On the basis of these forecasting articles and my observations on the design trends that appeared in the last years I tried to make this picture of what the face of interior design in 2008 will look like.

The other trends are:

  • eco-conscious design - although some forecasters expect a certain tiredness of consumers from the theme of green and eco- I think that it is our role as designers to help customers live better and promote sustainable design. I like the term 'Art eco movement'. According to Design trends on tap for 2008,Chattanooganow, it is "the same sustainable sensibility that draws consumers to solar water heaters, icynene insulation or vegetative roofs also drives interior elements and fixtures that pair ecological efficiency with good looks."
  • incorporating outdoor spaces with the overall home design

  • mellow metallics: metallic finishes and effects will last long into 2008, but mainly the "muted metallics" that have the sophistication of their shinier counterparts, but are much easier to live with

  • increased customization and one-of-a-kind elements are taking center stage - through custom-designed furniture or reinventing existing pieces whether they be from clients' own homes or antique fairs, estate sales or flea markets or

  • with the help of new technologies that can take any image and translate it into a permanent wall or floor covering

  • combining traditional patterns and crafts with new technologies (example: the 'lace trend' as part of the "Figuration in Contemporary Design" - I am using here the title of an interesting exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago

  • the interest in crafts, materials and textures will continue

  • intelligent appliances

Well, that is for the moment, but more and detailed information is available on request.

Interior Design Trends 2010 Review

It is interesting to read all kind of forecasts and expectations for the 2010 trends in interior design, but many of them are connected with just colors or fashionable materials and decorations - yes, it is true that interior design is influenced by trends in fashion, but it is important to consider trends more from a point of view of a picture of society. And having in mind the latest developments in society and economics, I think that the most important and lasting trend in interior design is going to be the search for authenticity - as in the Rough Luxe trend which is not so new, but is finding its natural growth this year and definitely in the years to come, because it "does double duty from shabby to chic by utilizing reclaimed metals,  muted tones and sustainable woods".  Another reasons: we find more and more often that we like products with history, containing emotional value for us. And it is also part of the growing trend for searching sustainable solutions in design and through design in every other area of our life.
A recent article in  PointClickHome.com  describes trends 2010 very well:
“Survival mode” may have been the name of the game in 2009, but in 2010, the design world is looking to have a bit more fun. While designers are still conscious of the economic and environmental challenges ahead, the upcoming trends they’re fashioning impart a boost of happiness and a shot of color, as well as an infusion of surrealist fantasy and handmade charm.
Turquoise, the Color of the year 2010 selected by Pantone is definitely a good shot of color and, true, the 2009 shows proved that 2010 will be the year of craft. The appearance of Furniture Guaranteed for 300 Years at Milan Furniture fair shows also that customers again start to value longevity, good quality practical and well designed products that we like to have and keep as long as possible.
And according to the Cologne Furniture Fair Highlights 2010
"In the year 2010 the design scene will be dominated by
conflicting tendencies : the experimental on the one hand and durability and quality on the other.
"Trickery", "Comfort Zone", "Rehab" and "Discipline" are the most important developments for the interior design sector 2010."
There seems to be a considerable overlapping in all these forecasts and the result is a trend to a certain maturity - in society and in design.
Some more trends forecasts that  are already making their way or growing:
- Upcycling - "the evolution of recycling, reusing materials to turn them into something more valuable or upscale than they were in their first life." is just one of the trends described by The Commercial Appeal.
           - HOMESTEAD CHIC .
More links will follow so check this post often. You are welcome to suggest interesting links or ideas below, too.

There is another link that I am going to add today (Jan.20th)- I just came across The Kelly Hoppen Trend Report 2010 and was pleased to find that she also expects the focus this year to be on "chic design and more comfort", as is IMM Cologne 2010 expectancy:
"Your home is not there to say how much you have but it needs to say how happy and comfortable you are in the most chic way possible!"

Interior Design Trends 2012

Happy New year 2012! Let it be better than 2011 and let there be more love and satisfaction - in everything we do!
Usually at this time of the year we are trying to fugure out what expects us, how would the new year look like and for us, designers and design-lovers, what design trends will be most influential?
For sure Green design is one of the most important trends - it’s not surprise, this trend is becoming more and more popular, especially with increasing availability of eco-friendly materials and products, because green interior design not only helps us to create  healthier homes, but also to contribute to a sustainable way of living as a whole. And now we have made the next step -  the rising trend for green roofs and kitchen gardens.. It is interesting that the trend for growing one's own food is expanding into the restaurant business and into the urban community where community gardens are becoming increasingly common.
It appears that tough economic times have taught us some necessary lessons - we are rearranging the list of our values and  improvements in interior design and architecture are taking place to enable even the smallest places to be used efficiently. Some less used spaces are disappearing thus giving more room for more functional spaces.
An important manifestation of the green trend is the use of resource-efficient features like low-flow faucets, low-E windows, powerful insulation and natural choices and eco-consciousness for furnishing for our homes. A natural and rustic feel with a lot of wood, often unfinished, is becoming more and more popular.

From decoration point of view, it is a good choice that Pantone have made for a color of the year 2012 - Tangerine Tango. Hopefully,  it will successfully play the role of a visual anti-depressant offering some sunshine for a grim economy and help us overcome the gloomy moods, rejuvenate ourselves and our lives.

And, speaking about moods, there is another interesing trend - "A cultural, social and consumer rebooting of all things 90s", according to The Future Laboratory these are "Trends,...designed to reassure, reassess and remind us of things that settle the senses, lull the emotions and refresh the spirits."

Obviously, we need that and design is probably one of the best tools to make the change. With the help of vivid chues, huge patterns, coloured lights, sparkle and glitz luxury slowly returns in interior design, but this is a more resrained, conscious luxury without the exuberance and unnecessary abundance.
My personal hope and believe is that along with green design ingenious designs and new technologhies will help this change most.

Top Design Trends of 2009

Happy New Year! It is time to have a look at the trends in interior design for 2009. As a result of my research and observations I have collected a list of major trends and inspirations that will have influence in the beginning year. Recession forced many people to readjust their values and will put consumers in a more powerful position.

  • a focus on quality craftsmanship and eco consciousness: it is not enough today to say for a product that it is Green - consumers demand proof that the process and the final product truly are Green, sustainable and meet with Fair Trade standards

  • the trend towards innovation and creativity will grow

  • handmade objects by artisans or by ourselves!

  • recycled goods - reclaim, recycle and rediscover

  • removing the clutter of over-design to focus on life

  • allowable luxuries

  • paint - major impact without major investment

  • eggplant, wine, burgundy, plum, beet, raisin and raspberry colors have flooded the catwalks, but as we know that fashion and interior design have a lot in common, so the berries colors are expected to be reigning in our homes, too

  • lots and lots of bright vivid yellow to give us energy - the standout accent color for 2009. Pantone touts “mimosa,” a vibrant shade of yellow illustrated by the flowers of some mimosa trees as its top shade of the new year.

  • Redesign is hot, hot, hot’ (you can read more on Re-design in my site)

The interior here from ELLE DECOR seems to combine many of the above trends in the most elegant way.

Interview with TrendOffice on Floor Coverings International

I am happy to share that I, as owner of Trendoffice Interior design Consulting, was asked to answer several questions by Floor Coverings International about design in general and trends in design. I think that my readers will find it interesting to read the Interview with TrendOffice on their blog. Here below is the beginning:

"At Floor Coverings International Ottawa East, we love to inspire and inform. We know that a secret to a beautiful home is more than amazing flooring. That’s why we introduced our Designer Influencer Interview Series, to give you a peek at the latest trends in home design. Our latest interview features talented designer and blogger Temenouzhka Zaharieva of TrendOffice. You can follow Temenouzhka on Facebook.

What’s one of your favorite design pieces you have in your own home?

‘Design pieces’ is quite vaguely defined term – I always try to buy everything with good design. Most of the furniture at home is designed by me – part of the kitchen, dining room, some of the furniture in the living room, bedroom and children room, our walk-in cupboard, my desk. But if we talk about famous designers’ work, most of it is not readily accessible and that is the problem nowadays – we would like to have good design everywhere around us, but how many families can afford pieces by Urquiola or Marcel Wanders? Or the famous designer furniture by modern classics from the last century? Yes, we do have the beautiful Eames Molded Plastic Side Chairs with Eiffel Tower Base at home – the most popular designs from that period, but they are also some of the most widely imitated. Fakes are everywhere and people are forced to buy fakes just to be able to enjoy the idea of good design, using bad quality furniture. Good design should be more accessible.

What is your favorite design trend of 2016?

I am happy to find that pastels are still on trend no matter that Pantone and other colour companies are no more choosing one Colour of The Year, but sets of themes and colours. Still, pastels are part of them. And that is quite natural – we need the calmness they supply to our environment. And another staying trend that is my favorite – copper and copper hues. They are so warm and cozy. Based on my experience, I have my own prediction for a favorite Colour of The Year 2017. By following all the new products and events in the field of interior design, I think that we shall continue to see a direct connection between fashion and interior design and yellow will be a very popular colour next year...."
Thank you, Jordan, it is good to be able to share thoughts and ideas with your readers.

Interior Design Week Cologne 2010 - Preview

I am very pleased to find that it appears 2010 will be a busy year for interior design! The year starts with ambitious projects - mainly in Cologne:
Interior Design Week 18 - 24 January 2010: "An exhibition event focusing on current trends in design – particularly interior design. The exhibitors are institutions and museums, including Museum Ludwig and the Museum of Applied Art , universities, design offices, initiatives, showrooms, galleries, networks, furniture stores and international manufacturers."                            Christine Ruff Ceramic

PASSAGEN 2010 is opening the international design season with "projects and presentations by the crème de la crème of the international designer scene... Whether classic soloists or young networks, universities, newcomers, institutions, architects, the media or agents: They are all neighbors for a week; densely-strung pearls on a design route through Cologne ’s inner city – and since recently in the Ehrenfeld and Mülheim districts.
PASSAGEN 2010 is a design symposium that tackles the topic “Context:Design.” It presents design “live” and 1-to-1 in an interplay with architecture. It addresses the reciprocal effects of art and design, includes the issue of social demands on design – particularly the topics sustainability and ecology, as well as urbanism and aesthetics.

From 18 to 24 January 2010 runs also the second DESIGNERS FAIR held in Cologne. After over 20,000 visitors “stormed in” in the first year, organizers have increased the space available to exhibitors to about 4,000 m² – on which over 65 furniture and interior designers are exhibiting their new products. The first DESIGNERS FAIR in 2009 consciously focused on young German designers – as of 2010, it’s also open to international exhibitors.
Some exhibitors' previews:

It is good to find that there will be interesting new furniture for children:

Interior design trends 2013

There are several distinct trends in interior design and decorating that seem to gain popularity this year:
pastels pastel colours stood out and showed up in the new spring collections of many home furniture and accessories brand during all the major design events this year - IMM Cologne and Maison&Objet in January and Milan Furniture Fair this month. And that is for a reason - pastels bring the calm and happy atmosphere in our homes that we are all looking for.

- stripes - as we know, fashion and interior design have a lot in common. Trends from fashion world soon appear in our homes. We are seeing a lot of stripes on catwalks this spring, so expect them to become the new fashion for your home, too, very soon.

- copper was one of the big themes during Milan design week 2013 and probably will continue to be in fashion for long;
- reclaimed wood: recycling, re-purposing and reusing old furniture and home decor accessories will continue to be a hot trend in interior design this year, too. And this is not just a fashionable trend. Due to its seasoned and air-dried nature reclaimed wood is a prefered material which, unlike the generic MDF or plastic alternatives, makes each piece of solid reclaimed wood furniture unique.
PARADISO Kommode mit 4 Schubladen

And finally one trend that I like very much - blurring the boundaries between indoors and the garden/patio is absolutely a booming trend for the last couple of years. With the summer just a few weeks away it is the right time to think of your outdoor retreat, even if this is just your balcony. With the proper home furniture and accessories it is not difficult to transfer the vacation atmosphere at home.

Interior Design Trends for 2019 - Part 1: Materials

It is always interesting to know what is coming - in life in general, but also in our professional life, too. Interior design is an inspiring profession - we create the spaces we live, work and entertain in and we do our best to make them in such a way that everything there is much easier, more beautiful and fun to use. And that is a good reason to look for inspiration in the coming new trends and be informed for the best possibilities we can offer to our clients.
So, I expect that part of the trends that will be popular in the coming 2019 are based on classic, well-known materials and ideas and many other - on the new materials and ideas that we have discovered this year.
Image result

Brass is one of the materials that we rediscovered in the past few years and especially its new applications and, like copper earlier, we are going to use it more extensively in our interior design projects.

Porcelain stoneware can now look like real onyx! And like other natural stones, too. My favourite is ULTRA ONICI:

"The extremely reduced 6mm thickness, together with the advanced Ultra technology, allows an appropriately powerful band of light to travel through the Onice Ultra slabs and backlight the material."!!!‎ source: archiproducts.com
From the earlier discoveries in the field of interior design materials, I expect that we are going to continue to use extensively the terrazzo and discover more ways to do that.
And another one, very suitable especially for the cold winter days, is plush mohair velvet - it is one of the new materials that Tom Dixon studio  introduced in their production line this year along with high-textured materials like hand tufted wool:

I have been quoted...

This blog is not the only place where you can read my posts about the latest in interior and furniture design, the most interesting trends and events in this firld - I am regularly posting also in one of the most interesting new on-line design magazines, Clippings.com. There I have posted about Interior Design Trends for 2013: Graphic Patterns and recently found that Materials Marketing™' - America’s oldest, largest and only fully integrated manufacturer of hand-carved architectural and dimensional stone  have quoted me in their post about The Chevron in Interior Design:
"European blogger, Temenouzhka Zaharieva, echoed these sentiments in clippings.com when she wrote, “patterns, and especially graphic patterns are making a steady comeback in interior design- from chevrons to stripes, and in every combination in between. They are an easy way to make a whimsical, bold statement and transform an ordinary interior into a space special and sophisticated.” "

IMM Cologne 2012 - Preview

There is a new format for depicting interior design trends at this year's IMM Cologne (January 16-22) - The premiere of  "Das Haus - Interiors on Stage" installation by Doshi Levien:
"Koelnmesse sees the "Das Haus - Interiors on Stage" format launched for the imm cologne 2012 as part designer portrait, part living laboratory, where the current trends in interior design can be depicted in three dimensions and the guest designer can formulate a statement on his own very personal idea of a perfect home... "We're interested in interior design that's ahead of our time, but not so far ahead that nobody understands it. That's particularly important to us," says Katharina C. Hamma, Chief Operating Officer of Koelnmesse, of her expectations of the project.
Doshi Levien solved the challenge of creating a very personal living space scenography with visionary character in the midst of the trade fair by coming up with "a culmination of spaces from all over the world - some of them taken from memory, some of them from dreams". The prominent London duo's constructed dream is widely regarded as one of the highlights of the next international interior design fair that will be taking place in Cologne from 16th to 22nd January." via

Patricia Urquiola talking about the Interior Trends 2011

Do you want to know what are the most important trends in furniture and interior design for 2011? Then you should go to IMM Cologne blog. Two days ago they published the results from  a two-day imm cologne Trend Board workshop in Cologne where at the beginning of June, the designers Patricia Urquiola and Defne Koz  met up with the designer Harald Gründl, the textile designer Martin Leuthold  and the editor Marco Velardito to discuss and filter out four of the most important trends in furniture and interior design which were to be summed up in a trend book called Interior Trends 2011.
The Trend Board — a group of five or six influential designers, architects, materials specialists and trade journalists — was established by imm cologne seven years ago. The trend book, which is published every autumn, sums up the results of that year’s Trend Board workshop.
I like the choice for this year's trend board - Urquiola is no doubt the most accomplished woman in contemporary interior and furniture design with powerful influence. And one more successful and inspired woman designer -  Defne Koz. Having in mind that trends are always sensed first by great designers, for sure we can believe what they consider to be the most important trends for 2011.
One trend I totally agree with and like its description:
"Trend 1: Emotional Austerity
As bittersweet as dark chocolate
Austere beauties: The elegant ambiance is defined by clear and unostentatious aesthetics. And yet despite their severity, the forms and lines are anything but cold... In their search for the essence of things, the designers encounter classic and established forms that are equipped with new functions and produced with high-tech. This playful mixing with new technologies and the piecing together of old and new details are symptomatic of a desire to dismantle and re-arrange that finds particularly strong expression in this trend: The cards are being reshuffled. With filigree forms and soft colours, these austere beauties appeal to both our heads and our hearts. They are joined by pretty but modest basic forms with boxy or rounded contours. The colours and materials are dominated by nature: wood, leather, felt and plant fibres are complemented by technical fabrics; an earthy olive hue dominates over lush and pale shades of green and is joined by powder shades from rosé to brown."

Trend: Nature Everywhere

As my blog's name suggests, trends are an important theme of my posts. And one of the main trends in our contemporary way of living: the wellness industry reaching an all-time high with a continued growth of consumer interest in health and wellness. That is so logical - because we all want to live in a healthy world and be well. So, we must design and create the conditions under which this becomes possiblе.

And as we learn more and more today, we gradually return to the basic natural resources - in furniture design we understand that it is better to use wood and cork in a sustainable way, rather than trying to replace them with artificial materials everywhere. Another area where we observe a growing interest in nature - in fact, a return to ancient traditions - is medicine and healthcare. According to many reports the trend is that natural medicine and the science of nutrition will stand at the forefront of the healthcare.

Arnica montana

We are focused on the design and innovation of medical technologies, products, service systems and human experiences to solve a variety of healthcare challenges. On the other side, shoppers in particular are growing more critical of ingredients in traditional over-the-counter products. And they are seeking out more herbal and botanical additives, with an increase in usage from 13% to 25%, according to a recent research. Conventional pain relief methods, for example, frequently involve pharmaceutical drugs or medical interventions. While they offer quick relief, they are sometimes accompanied by extreme side effects or the risk of dependence.

In addition to ingredients found in nature, customers are also looking for transparency in ingredient lists and clean ingredients, analgesic that offers clean, safe, and effective relief for a variety of aches and pains. When it comes to pain relief, people are also looking for alternatives to ingestible medications, for topical over-the-counter pain relief products like, for example, arnica cream.  The active ingredients in Doctor Hoy’s Arnica Boost Recovery Cream are listed as topical and external analgesics by the Food and Drug Administration. The formulas used are water-based and contain no parabens or toxins.

Another interesting trend - many people that are looking for safe ways to manage their pain, trying to take care of themselves, or rely on caregivers, at home, for as long as they can. Easily accessible and safe topical over-the-counter pain relief products enable consumers to lead active and pain-free lives.

Everyone is talking about sustainable, equitable, healthy, and resilient design - of products and services directed to our everyday needs, including furniture and furnishings, cloths, food, healthcare...

"DESIGN WITH NATURE" exhibition  at Salone del Mobile

I have posted a lot about cork in interior design - one of my favorite materials. Wood has been an all time favorite for furniture, only now we look for wood coming from sustainably managed forests. Bamboo's application areas are wide, including clothes and textiles.

Biophilic design is probably one of today's most likes trends in interior design - for the same reason: we want to live with nature everywhere around us. А beautiful example is this bathroom design:

Marca Corona

Considering even only these few mentioned areas of our lives, we should say that actually, Nature is not a trend at all, but a necessity and a true need of the human being.

Have a look at another trend from 2023 that will continue in 2024.

‘The Barnhouse interiors by Kate Moss’

Fashion and interior design have a lot in common, as my regular readers have seen in many posts on this blog. Now we have another example how a fashion star makes use of her popularity in the field of interior design. Kate Moss has curated the interior design of the Barnhouse,a luxury home located in a new housing development in the Cotswolds, UK.

“John and I became friends through our love for the English countryside (and the pub)…When he told me about the Barnhouse in the middle of the silver birch wood I was intrigued and then excited to become part of the design team. We have created a luxurious haven in the woods, a perfect place to escape with family and friends.”

Kate has restyled the interiors of the Barnhouse, complementing its traditional elegance with a vibrant, retro-glamour vision. To launch her new career Moss plans a lavish party inviting celebrity friends to the bash on October 10.
The mutual influence between fashion and interior design is a stable trend that started several years ago and is  now one of the main trends in interior design.

Customized Living

Customization is one of the most popular trends in the last years - creating your own unique look for the things that surround you is a great possibility to express yourself and more and more companies offer customized and personalized products. As an interior designer I am very much pleased with the possibility to choose a rug  and customize it to literally any color combination, size and shape required - carpets are an important part of our interiors and this allows us to implement exactly the color scheme we want for a certain room. We can also use the rug as a way to unite all the colors in a room in the most suitable pattern and style.
I have many publications dedicated to this trend and the above abstract is from my post Customization trend: Create your Own Rug. Now I am very pleased to find that Customized Livingis a keynote theme at
DOMOTEX 2012. I am eager to see more photos from the event which takes place from 14 to 17 January 2012 and will showcase design trends in carpets, home textiles, resilient floor coverings, parquet and laminates. For those of you who are curious to learn what are the latest trends in carpet design, here below is an abstract from their preliminary publication:

The choice of floor covering is
often the inspiration behind the
interior designer’s whole concept.
A carpet is the unifying design
element which brings together
room decor and furniture
to create an individually styled
living space.
This trend towards individual, unique style statements – customized living as it is often called – has a massive influence and opens up
new opportunities in personal interior design. Carpets allow almost unlimited possibilities due to the sheer diversity of materials, colours and shapes, not to mention custommade
products. Fashion trends areplaying an increasing role in carpetdesign. Consequently, in the 2012 season we will see lots of bold colour– pink, mustard yellow, cobalt blue, leaf green, turquoise, petroland rust – separately or as blockcolours, but also in funky, colourful combinations. In short, modern carpetsare an attractive and eyecatching design statement.

The  sustainability and “green living” trend applies to flooring, too. There are numerous  materials suited to this trend in flooring and home, such as undyed Himalayan (Tibetan) wool,
hemp, plant fibres and yarns from cacti as well as patterns based on natural forms and images which can
be used in carpets. Countless patterns, shapes and textures are inspired by nature. The natural theme is not simply expressed by the use of environment-friendly fibres and colours, but also by the use of natural images in carpets and rugs.
