Hot Designer

It seems that everybody is writing now about him. Jaime Hayón is the most intriguing figure in the new Spanish design.

What I find important about his latest collection Showtime is that along with the Bouroullec brothers it contributes about the formation of the new trend in office design: comfort and cosiness, together with nesting and networking.

He designed the Showtime collection for Bd Ediciones de Diseño, the most prestigious Spanish design company. "This happy encounter between a young designer and a veteran producer has led to the birth of a furniture collection meant for the home, but which has the adaptability and the personality needed for contract furnishing" is how the company itself describes this collection. What makes it so interesting is the strong contrasts between classic language and new technology. The result is something elegant and cosy at the same time wich makes the collection another example of the "HOME SPIRIT" trend in office furniture.
It includes the magnificently theatrical Multileg cabinet in petrol blue with numerous legs from a plethora of historical periods. It can be bought in one, two, four or eight pieces and can have from four to 24 legs, which has prompted some to compare it to a centipede. The designer says that the collection has been inspired by 'a love of classic MGM musicals'. This 'weatherproof' Armchair with Cover is made of medium-density rotational molded polyethylene. For strictly indoor use, the chair can be lacquered in white, black, or napoleon blue. It can also be pigmented in orange, sand, or grayish blue.
