Kitchen Trends from IMM Cologne 2013 - LivingKitchen

Xtend+ A new philosophy of kitchens With Xtend+, LEICHT is presenting a trend-setting design development which has the potential to make key changes in kitchens and dramatically influence kitchen architecture. Because with this wall design concept, unique worldwide, the space above the worktop has been given a completely new look. Xtend+ is without doubt an interesting planning alternative to the traditional trio arrangement with worktop, niche and wall unit. The dainty wall system with illuminated shelves in aluminium rails is designed to be placed on the worktop, completely filling the space above it. But the special feature of Xtend+ is the possibility it offers of closing the entire shelving space to create a smooth, calm wall area at the push of a button. To this end, LEICHT developed a special slat system. Together with the current carriers for the LED shelf lighting, horizontal slats that are 13 cm wide and 4 cm thick are slotted into the supports of the dainty, but sturdy aluminium construction. As the blind rises, the interior space slowly opens up creating more and more suspense as the light gradually increases. The perception of the kitchen furnishings and the overall architecture changes during the process of opening and closing from an illuminated shelving system to a smooth wall space and vice versa. The slats are operated by remote control; individual areas can thus be controlled separately. The MDF material of the slats is either lacquered in the same colour as the kitchen or in contrast to it, depending on customer requirements. Colours can be selected from the RAL “Classic” or “Design” palette. The Xtend+ shelving system comes in grids up to 180 cm wide and 134 cm high. This means it can be planned to finish flush with the tall units. The pull-up technology is integrated above the slats behind an easily accessible drop shutter that at the same time is level with adjacent tall units. Xtend+ thus provides a whole range of options for innovative room design and will both encourage and challenge you to create an entirely new picture of a kitchen.

Disegno the design world's attention in 2013 is likely to remain fixed on the past

IMM fed into the growing trend for re-issues in design, a movement established by previous collections such as Gio Ponti for Molteni & C and Charlotte Perriand for Cassina. At IMM e15 added four new furniture pieces to its collection of designs by Ferdinand Kramer, the mid 20th Century German Functionalist designer and architect. The e15 collection - coupled with the Swedish company String launching new editions of its shelving system developed by Nils Strinning in 1949, and Thonet showing its S1520 coat rack from 1930.

IMM Cologne starts today

At Cologne’s 24th PASSAGEN Interior Design Week, which  will coincide with the IMM cologne international furnishing show, German start-up company ECHTSTAHL will be showcasing their puristic and timeless stainless-steel products -  the “ ohh “ family of wafer-thin products, made from high-quality stainless steel that is 3mm or 4mm thick and upholstered with felt available in 24 different colours, has grown: ECHTSTAHL has added a semi-deep version ideally suited to be used as a wall shelving unit, further extending the versatile usability of this occasional furniture range. The second newly-designed object by the name of “ ell “ has a shape reminiscent of the letter L and is equally made from a combination of stainless steel and felt.

HIDEsk offers new options of working in small spaces: This pop-up office can change a bedroom within seconds into a small but functional working space. The powdercoated metal back hides cables and chargers and can be individualised with flexible aluminium shelves.
