imm cologne 2008 - news

For those of you who wish to have been there - enjoy!

LA NUOVA CASA - this is my choice:)

What are the new trends from this year's fair? Here is one important opinion:

Dirk-Uwe Klaas, chief Managing Director of the Association of the German
Furniture Industry in Bad Honnef (VDM) on three current developments at imm
cologne 2008:
"Firstly, you will realise that the quality and presentation
of what is being offered has again clearly improved in comparison to previous
years. Secondly, we can clearly see that design and a demanding use of form is
no longer a must only in the more elevated price range, but also in the middle
and lower prices categories. And finally there is one big mega trend - the fact
that there are no trends.
Variety is the order of the day, whether in relation
to furniture and technology, furniture and light or furniture and
ecology."

Although no major trends, I notice something I like - there seems to be a lot of natural wood in home furnishings this year which confirms the trend for solid wood pieces and visible woodgrain:

Heimtextil Frankfurt - Photos Depicting the 2008 Trends

It seems that there is a lot of glamor and glitter at Heimtextil this year:
purple and metallics, Asian influence, high-tech fabrics,

According to Heimtextil Frankfurt - International trade fair for home textiles and commercially used textiles - Press center:
There are four trend statements presented inside the Forum.

2008/09 trends take a significant step towards this by reflecting our own image
back on ourselves. “It’s time to be ...” combines the force of the present with
the power of the contemporary.
In this context, honesty and soul are
expansive and so:
The decorative and whimsical are replaced by objectivity
and clarity.
The origin and history of things is important, it lends them
authenticity.
Things produced with honesty and ambition are credible and
valuable.
Texture is equally as important as appearance.
We appreciate
perfection and recognise the attraction of imperfection.
It’s only now that
the new millennium is beginning to take shape in our hearts and heads and we
recognise that it’s time for change. What we desire is a new perspective, a new
concept, a new attitude. Therefore we need to look to the future rather than
referencing the past. We are on the brink of a change in aesthetic direction
towards a new purism.

IMM Cologne 2008 Preview

What is different this year? There will be no Ideal House project.

Instead of zooming the future into the "Ideal House" in the present, such as the German Design Council has tried to achieve in recent years (which in my opinion was more a scene for expressing a certain designer's ideas), now visitors will have the possibility to learn more about a partner country and its design in international context. The 2008 choice is Duch design.

Zanotta is one of the very few major corporations to present novelties at the imm cologne. Zanotta's presentation in Cologne will center on the Delta sofa by Emaf Progetti, which will premiere in Cologne.

Another interesting product - FLAKES by Mia Cullin for Woodnotes is made of Tyvek FLAKEFlake elements can be used to make different surfaces for curtains and partitions or for place mats and other table decorations.Three-dimensional forms are also possible. Flake elements are joined by slipping the point of an element through the hole of another element. The surface can be made for one-sided or two-sided use.By changing the direction from wich you slip the point, you can leave the points on the back side. You can create a whole or a net like, loose surface. The surfaces can be undone and redone.
