Bed Design - the design world’s new favorite playground?

Here is an interesting trend that I noticed:

After lighting it seems now that bed design is becoming the new playground for designers. Quite natural - this is the one item we use very regularly and our well-being depends on considerably. Along with the new technologies available this is a good reason for more and more designers to be attracted by the chance to experiment and widen the area of possibilities.
Lago introduced their inspirational Flutua bed (above and below) that seems to be floating in the air:



















We remeber the Clip bed of Urquiola - an elegant combination of feminine approach, modern technologies and comfort:













And several weeks ago Corner upholstered bed (top and below) received the 2006 red dot product design award for its flexible and elegant designthat expresses the current lifestyle trend to multifunctionality: it may be used as bed as well as a piece of furniture for relaxation. An upholstered vertical frame that encloses the conventional mattress can easily be lifted in several steps by lock hinges, individually corner by corner or in an inclined position from 0 to 90 degrees. In this way during the day the bed is transformed into a relax island fulfilling the functions of a sofa:
