Radiators as Sculptures

About 3 years ago I discovered a new fashion - radiators becoming a filed for sculptural exercises for designers . Then they began to get multifunctional and more and more new inspirational designs appeared. And from mundane heating appliance suddenly radiators are transformed into visually intriguing sculptures and elements of interior architecture that can stand on their own. That is the theme explored by exhibition curated by designer Karim Rashid titled "Totally Rad: Karim Rashid Does Radiators" which will open on March 4 at the New York's Museum of Arts and Design. Great idea!

And what is even more interesting - the show also inaugurates the museum's Design and Innovation Gallery, a second-floor space that will house short-term, guest curated exhibitions examining emerging trends in design.

Trends in Bathroom Radiators Design: Multifunctional

In addition to becoming a filed for sculptural exercises for the designers , today radiators are designed to have more functions than just heating the bathroom :
"Strongly square and modulated by a unit of measure that becomes proportion,
Quadraqua is a piece of furniture that holds objects without neglecting its role
as a heating element. Available in two heights, 112 and 183 cm (photo), 22.4 cm
width and a thermal potential from 300 to 500 W"

"QUADRAQUA" is designed by Domenico De Palo

ALCOVA, design by Luigi Brembilla for Brem belongs to the category of hybrid products: a towel rail/radiator that when needed can also be used as a seat. The larger model can be used in this way (75 x 185 H cm), 20/26 cm deep, while the two smaller ones (50 x 100 H cm, 60 x 145 H cm) can be used as shelves for keeping towels warm.
