The kitchen of the near future from Eurocucina 2010

One steady trend in kitchen design from Eurocucina 2010 is focus on simplifying daily life. There were many inspiring suggestions that created a very desirable image of the kitchen of the near future. One of my favorites is Indesit's Aqualift concept which redesigns the washing-up zone with an integrated dishwasher and sink, thus eliminating the need to bend down to use the dishwasher.

Integration makes it possible to redesign space and discover new, unexplored furnishing possibilities. Home appliances that are modular, flexible and integrated make it possible develop the functions needed to improve day-to-day life and also enjoy the advantages of improved management of energy resources, with obvious environmental benefits.
Another great product suggested by Indesit is Vertigo, which integrates an ample hob and hood in a single synergic system with an oven cavity conveniently placed above the kitchen top.

More great products for the kitchen of the near future will follow soon!

Sex and the City 2 - sneak peek at the interiors

As interior designer I have special interest in set design. And have published some of the most interesting interiors from famous movies, including all the available photos from the interiors in Sex and the City. Now we can have a sneak peek into the set design of the new sequel, where interior design is going to play even a more important role, as ELLE DECOR writes, Carri Bradshaw is extending her passion for all things fashionable to the world of interior design :

“I’ve been cheating on fashion with furniture,” quips Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, at the beginning of Sex and the City 2.

I am curious to see how the movie treats interior design and the sets they have created. I hope that the time past has made its positive impact and there will be a certain maturity not only in the characters, but also in the whole concept of the movie.

Trend: Pixels Everywhere. Now a luxury limited edition cabinet by Boca do Lobo

Designers like to use the pattern of pixels - as a way to introduce modernity in design for the home. It first started at last year's Maison & Objet 2009 when Cristian Zuzunaga dressed the creations of Christophe Delcourt with pixellated fabric. Then the beautiful Tufted Pixel Rug of the Portuguese Piodao group
and the Ron Arad's Do Lo Rez rug and sofa. Now we have this beautiful luxurious cupboard by Boca do Lobo. The Pixel is a cube that opens to revel its interior with nine drawers for storage, a Limited Edition Cabinet offering price $23,850.
.
"The Pixel is an effort to honor the union between design and craftsmanship. The 1088 triangles that complete this piece, with a diversity of finishes never before seen combined – silver leaf, gold leaf, lacquering, and 10 different types of wood leaf – carry the dedication and art of those who built it.  Inside this piece we reinterpret a material and technique left in time – aged mirror and “capitoné”.   The polished brass base gives Pixel a unique personality,  a strong and at the same time sophisticated character."

Trend: Elegant Classic Forms Hide Modern Technology

- this is obviously one of the trends from the last Milan Furniture Fair. I have two beautiful examples:
Philippe Starck's Hooo!!! for Flos and Patricia Urquiola's 'Comback chair' for Kartell: Urquiola uses special technopolymer to produce the classic Windsor chair.
Stark collaborates with american artist Jenny Holzer for the text, german-british interactive designer Moritz Waldemeyer for the custom electronics, french glass manufacturer Baccarat for the crystal and for the production with italian lighting company Flos. 'Hooo!!!' is produced in a limited edition only. A white LED display runs along the center line of the crystal element. The circuit contains a sophisticated piece of electronic design with LEDs, a processor and an on/off switch to produce a fully functional text display.

This not a a new trend - the new retro is a trend that started several years ago, but in the last couple of years it transforms in a more sophisticated version, where classic forms are reinterpreted from the point of view of modern technologies and materials. Which is great! Don't you think that we are happy to be able to experiencethe achievements of the past with the added comfort of contemporary way of living?

Urquiola steps into fashion

And it seems to be quite a firm invasion - after her debute at last Milan Furniture Fair with her bag for Feragamo inspired by faraway cultures, now I can see that Urquiola has created a limited edition shoes for the Clerkenwell Design Week, the results of her collaboration with Tord Boontje and Tracey Neuls.
She is good! And her designs are as bold and self-confident as she is :)
