Cologne Furniture Fair: the new trends begin to shape up

Here below are some of the trends shaping up at Cologne. According to a survey conducted by the German Furniture Industry Association (VDM) among manufacturers and exhibitors this year's trend-setting developments and tendencies
include:

MULTI-FUNCTIONALITY FURTHER EXTENDED
As the focal point of the furniture ranges at imm cologne 2007 the
respondents generally stated the increase in multi-functional furniture. This
evolution in the product range is not a new theme, but confirms the customers'
desire for multi-purpose and flexible furniture. People also want to enjoy
freedom of design for their furniture, a trend which is being underlined with
tilting, folding, turning and swivelling features

DS 165 DESIGN: HUGO DE RUITER for De Sede above is just exactly that: an elegant modern seating unit that offers the right solution for every room and occasion. The adjustable backrests enable new seating positions to be achieved at will. And thanks to the arrangement of rectangular seating elements, the sofa can develop to fit every living area as if it were a growing organism.

Another examples about multifunctionality are the sit-lie-lounge couch formation LAVE in the post below, the Artanova sofa (below), and the furniture series by Thut

And more about trends - colours:

MANY COLOURS AND PATTERNS

As far as cover fabrics are concerned, in the
coming furniture season, we can expect bold, loud colours. Aubergine or lilac
are the season's trend colours
. But blue is also asserting itself in all
variations. Floral patterns, stripes, checks and the entire spectrum of the
natural shades will be on display. The classic "black-white" will once again
play a role in 2007.

Love those colors! I want to do a black and white glam bedroom. Any advice?

It can be very impressive - have a look at the Moooi site (I like their graphic patterms) and then use something from the wonderful colourful items in your site for a focal point! I may post a link if I come accross something suitable
