Christmas Inspiration From Around the World

Danish Cage Wreath
Do you dream of a different Christmas, with different decorations this year? One interesting way to put a twist on the holidays is to take inspiration from the traditions of different places around the world. In Ireland, for example, candles are placed in each window to welcome Jesus and visitors of the house. In the modern-day version of this tradition, candles are battery-powered or electric. In Norway elves are an important folklore element and the presence of at least one or two is a must in Christmas decorations. In Ukraine Christmas trees are decorated with spider webs, while in Lithuania, they adorn them with hand-crafted ornaments of straw from the fields. The Swedish tradition is similar and their common ornaments include straw dolls and animal figures, such as goats. And in Canada and France you will see a lot of pine boughs and kissing balls as traditional Christmas decoration. See below how other countries do it and bring a bit of their traditions home.
