Fascinated by the atmosphere - Design Miami/ Basel 2011

I am really fascinated by the atmosphere  of Design Miami / Basel 2011,

Hostler Burrows, New York

one of the most important design fairs in the world, strictly dedicated to twentieth and twenty-first century design - thanks to the numerous photos by Designws you can feel this, too. Have a look:

Remarkable design ieas, arranged in an inspiring way. You can see more from the fair also in this video-glimpse.

I have the impression that Design Miami/ Basel 2011 is more inspiring than Milan Design Week, right? And considerably less accessible, too :)

Fresh and inspiring with a tight budget

I was fascinated with the ingenious design solution of architect  Paul Burnham who succeeded "to turn a large uninspiring building into a colourful, family friendly pub" with a very tight deadline and an even tighter budget. The quatation is from Dear Designer's Blog where I found this inspirational project. It is not only the clever idea to dress chandeliers with the boldest of Designer Guild fabrics and the quirky, slatted wood armchairs - the design project as a whole is a great example how a good professional can make any space magical!

Cozy inspiration for your lazy summer days from Paola Lenti:

Redefining Office Cubicle

The standard office cubicle has long been considered the closest thing to working inside a self storage unit. They're often close quartered and monotonous and seem to define the disenchantment of being a member of the adult workforce. With that said cubicles have their purpose. Workers need a space to be free from distraction and surfaces to call their own.

But for employers who want to provide cubicles yet want to avoid their seemingly unavoidable reputation as spirit-destroyers, there's an impressive collection from Herman Miller designer Ayse Birsel that compromises both desires.

The Resolve Collection's signature style is its lack of hardened paneling in favor of canvas like fabrics that stretch between poles. This allows far more freedom to wrap around a confined office space and provide personal work station privacy for employees without condemning them to long periods of isolation. The cubicle space created from the Resolve Collection is designed to be unregulated and free roaming, which is sure to keep employee spirits higher than the average office space.
Another great perk about this collection is that power strips and cord connectors have been built right into the framework and poles, eliminating the need for routing the workstations after the installing is complete. Then there's the acoustic inserts that can be embedded in the fabric walls to reduce noise distractions for workers without barricading them inside a hole. To top it off, the Resolve Collection offers unique canopy spreads which overhang cubicles and can be retracted or adjusted to fine tune privacy.
This all by the way comes with an impressive range of customization. Screens can be printed with a variety of landscaping scenes such as beaches and wintry trees or even customizing them with the company logo.

Parisian chic - Fermob French Bistro Tables

The Fermob French bistro collection brings Parisian chic to American patios and backyards. Fermob’s outdoor furniture offerings include gorgeous French bistro tables and French bistro chairs. All blend the best of classic and modern design, offered in a vast palette of colors ranging from basic black to lemon, paprika, and apple!

French bistro furniture is a popular choice for private residences due to its casual yet fun presence. The traditional design boasts a rich history; it was originally created in Europe in the 1800s and has since become recognizable throughout the world. Most Fermob bistro furniture easily folds up for storage, contributing to its popularity in commercial settings such as restaurants, wineries, universities, museums, and more.

The Fermob French Bistro Folding Table is available at HORNE in a variety of sizes. Features include an umbrella hole, perfect for providing shade on a sunny day, durable anti-UV Dupont Powder Coating for long outdoor life as well as plastic feet to protect any floors.  Several sizes of French Bistro Folding Tables are also available with a perforated design, as seen here in red (a.k.a. ‘poppy’):

Fermob French Bistro Folding Chairs are available in two different designs. The French Bistro Folding Chair Set of 2, like the French Bistro Folding Tables, is constructed of powder coated steel. It is available in the same colors as all Fermob tables. Additionally, the French Bistro Folding Chair Wood Slats features a powder coated steel frame with beech wood slats, as pictured here:

For those opposed to resting their feet on the floor, the Fermob Surprising Lounger Armchair with Footrest allows users to kick up their feet and relax. Urbanites will find the lounger perfect for lofts and rooftop bars as the footrest can conveniently be stowed underneath the chair:

All Fermob furniture undergoes several stages of rust proofing and paint stages, boosting their durability against the elements. Fermob is also committed to reducing their carbon footprint. Therefore, Fermob’s powder paints contain no solvents. Moreover, Fermob products are 100% recyclable! Choices for those seeking high quality, creative, and eco-friendly outdoor furniture can be limited, but Fermob presents so many attractive and affordable choices that we hardly feel deprived.
