Design for children at Maison et Objet 2011

Anne Claire Petit - Small Stool

Nonah! - Table Aldabra

I just found these interesting suggestions for your child's room presented at Maison et Objet:

Anne Claire Petit's Small Stool is made of cotton and polypropylene and is far less fragile than it appears - you can clean it without fear of spoiling.

Aldabra table is equipped with sliding trays that conceal two compartments for storing treasures and pencils. Made from wood from managed forests and treated with a biodegradable oil it suits all requirements for eco-design.

Sofia - for those of you who know very little about my town

Although this is an advertising movie about Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, it does not decorate the truth. Terry Randall, who tells this story, is an Englishman who has lived in Sofia for about a decade. Congratulation for the authors - great job!

From IMM Cologne: key trends and inspirations

Emotional Austeruty
There are four of them: Emotional Austerity ( it is a trend that I like most, as much as its description - As bittersweet as dark chocolate - and that I already wrote about  in my September preview), Surprising Empathy, Re-Balancing and Transforming Perspectives, each one represented by an installation at IMM’s Pure Village. Here below is a short presentation by Patricia Urquiola (via Mocoloco)

The Luxury of Handmade

What is the most suitable package for the gift of our loved ones? No, it is not the glossy paper bag that we can find in gift shops - for the connoisseur it is the beautifully designed with care for details handmade gift bag. If you are from those of us who value exquisite design and attention to detail, this luxurious linen gift bag is exactly what makes a perfect package for our precious little gifts, especially when the design is personalised. It is part of the recently published Luxurious Linen Catalogue
at Murphy Doodles.

The talented creator is Martina from Sablon Interiors.

She uses natural fabrics and her designs are inspired by the muted colours of the Flemish palette, but are also influenced by the vivid colours of her Celtic heritage and the timelessness of French style.

But I have other favorites from her creations, too, like this beautiful  Linen Bread Basket
and Wood and Silver Necklace below.

Sablon Interiors offer a full traditional interior design and styling service. I think that the designs above give you a very good idea about the high quality of this service!

One of the most beautiful rugs collection at this year's Maison et Objet

can be seen at the Nanimarquina booth Hall 8 F36. Its name is Losanges collection by Studio Bouroullec.

We have always been captivated by the traditional Persian rug, especially by the very old kilim savoir-faire which we see as a delicate mix of rusticity and fineness. We have been lucky to see this project carried through by the craftsmen of Northern Pakistan who managed to skillfully combine thirte
en colors through the geometrical rhombus shape. As well as being crafted by hand, the Afghan wool is also spun by hand, which allows for some unique color tones to be highlighted. This subtly random technique makes each lozenge slightly different and each rug, a unique piece.
 Have a look and enjoy!

Clever and inspiring children furniture

I just discovered two children furniture collections that can be an example of how we should design for children! They are flexible and different from everything we have used to see in children rooms:

- hülsta's OVIELLA is calm and flexible with bed that can become a cradle and a changing table that can be turned into a desk with 4 different heights.

- CedarWorks Rhapsody Series is in fact an indoor playset with loft bed or bunk bed, where your kids can play all day then sleep at night and will never get bored. A world of fantasy which you can create for your children. Great design that can be custom configured to perfectly match the space you have and the things your kids like to do!
