Desks with character - for your student

Furniture and the whole room of your children should be not only safe and good quality - it should stimulate creativity and personal growth. Desks are of great importance for young students and teenagers - they must be inviting and pleasure to use. I found several interesting examples of desks that are quite different from the standard models we have used to see.

Original desk with boxes of vertical storage installed on a plane in front of the plate, leaving a nice workspace. Perforations on each side allow to insert cables of different devices. Made from walnut wood from sustainably managed forests, it is also available in maple, oak and Muirapiranga.

Because it is not like the others, the Porcupine Desk from "Vitra" will make kids feel like playing or drawing. The small wooden table asserts a distinctive identity with its asymmetrical shape. The table surface shows a printed motif resembling a charm bracelet, with animal shapes and other symbols attached to a chain link circle. Some of the links in the chain are bored through the tabletop, so that colored markers supplied with the desk can be stored in the holes. Add a little imagination, and the table resembles a porcupine— which is what inspired the name ... The advantage of this set is that it does not take much space - once placed, it perfectly integrates the two banks under the table.

Trends in advance of Tendence 2010

Tendence 2010 starts today. It spotlights the latest trends for the coming autumn / winter season and gives an early preview of the spring and summer products for the following year.
Functionality, personality and authenticity are are the the buzzwords for the coming autumn/winter season, whether you’re talking about furniture, home accessories, gift ideas or presents.
The trend Products with personality is not new, but it is expected to become more influential. According to the organizers of Tendence
"The days of “clean chic“ are gone. Products with corners and edges, with personality, which suit a distinct, highly individual style are in demand. The vibrant nature of the furniture is accentuated by a casual, used look, fulfilling consumers’ desire for authenticity. Chairs, sofas, etc., either genuinely have a back story or appear to already show signs of use or interpret tried and trusted forms in a different way. It’s OK for products to look homemade and now even structural components form an integral part of the design instead of being hidden away. For example, instead of concealed cables on lighting they are integrated into the design."

Also, wellbeing-enhancing products will be on-trend for autumn/winter 2011, for everyday life demands a great deal of flexibility from most people. Against this background gifts which help you to relax and switch off are popular. For example the classic hand-warmer muff is now also available to keep your feet warm. Heated neck cushions shaped like giraffes, dogs and cats provide the right cuddle factor on the couch.

Trend Allert: Op Art

According to Elle Decor "Eye-catching patterns and psychedelic colors are back" as part of the return of Op Art and other elements of the '60s Style.

The term "Op Art"- from "Optical Art" ("visual art that makes use of optical illusions") appeared in the '60s when the public became enraptured with the movement and Op Art was everywhere: in print and television advertising, as a fashion motif in clothing and interior decoration.(below - Ring Round Platter by French Bull)

In fact, interest to optical illusion and eye-catching patterns has never disappeared. One example - Patricia Urquiola is one modern designer who is obviously fascinated with its possibilities. Look at her "Tropicalia' collection manufactured by Moroso or her lamp 'Chasen'for Flos, inspired by a Chasen, the bamboo brush of the Japanese tea ceremony .
