New Interior Design Trend: Alternative Upholstery


A break from traditional upholstery is on the horizon - that is one of the most clearly defined trends in the area of interior design as 3layercake properly indicates. It is quite true that for the last few years more often designers choose to differentiate their soft furniture through alternative upholstery rather than through (or along with) an innovative construction or form.
At Milan Design Week Ron Arad presented a garment that has a dual function of clothing a person’s body and the Ripple Chair. It is a result of his collaboration with APAC (A Piece of Cloth) and is created using an innovative digitally enhanced process.
There are many other examples, including the distinct 3D textile trend and the very recent appearance at this year's Milan Design Week of Patricia Urquiola's Antibody for Moroso, as well as famous older pieces like the Edra rope chair below:
