There is a lot in common between fashion and interior design

You dress your home in a similar way - with the same preferences for colour, materials, style. Probably this approach lies behind that growing number of fashion brands that begin to offer home furnishings. There were a lot of examples during last month's Milan Design Week 2014, too:

I have been following the growing trend of interconnection between fashion and interior design since the beginning of this blog so, if interested, you may enjoy all my discoveries through the years.

Get comfy!

At this furniture fair in Milan it seems to me there were a lot of designs dedicated to comfort. Here are some more of my favourites:

DEDON DALA Loveseat design by Stephen Burks

Atoll chaise longue by Patrick Norguet

There were a lot of other Soft relaxing designs at the fair, as I have posted earlier, with beautiful design -  like the Gemini chair by Artifort, Philippe Malouin's Mollo, Love Sofa high back by Marcel Wanders below, etc.

In general, there was A lot of coziness at Milan 2014.

A clever way to hide a table!

We all know how useful folding furniture is, but it is even more worth when it has double function. Have you ever thought to disguise your large table as a mirror? That's what ‘In Vain‘ by designer Ben Storms is - a marble trestle table that doubles as a standing mirror!

Great idea, isn't it?
It was presented at MILAN DESIGN WEEK 2014 last month.

A lot of coziness at Milan 2014

Which is the home product that creates most coziness for you? I suppose that for many of us it is sofa, but one designer who is especially good at designing cozy sofas is, of course, Patricia Urquiola. She always envisions in her designs the possibility for being together:

Patricia Urquiola designs the best sofas. The best. She designs other stuff that is also good but her sofas are THE BEST. My favorite is the Tufty Time for B&B Italia. I have a vision board that just consists of photos of that piece. It looks like a giant candy bar, what do you want me to do?

Beautiful! And so elegant use of men's fashion elements in home textile! This bed combines in its exquisite design two major trends - connection between fashion and interior design and use of the popular colour of the year scheme. How do you like it?

Hanging sculptures of light

content

This is high design in lighting - more and more designers try to create impressive lighting that not only serves its function to illuminate our interiors, but also to become the centerpiece that captures our attention. We saw several great examples of this trend at the last Milan Design Week this month. An immaterial sculpture of light is the new WIREFLOW 0300 Design by :

Not less impressive is the new Flow chandelier by Nao Tamura for Wonderglass. Each piece has its own shape, and hanged in multiples, they create a sculptural display of lighting:

‘Flow' is a contemporary chandelier.
Each piece enjoys its own shape, and in multiples, they create a sculptural display of lighting.
It was Ingo Maurer that first impressed me with his sculptural and unusual use of paper:

This is near view of his popular Jimken pendant light:

And today I came accross this beautiful new design by Anke Neumann that combines paper with fibre-optics:

That exactly has designed one of the contemporary designers that succeeds to be at the top of all discussions:  Nika Zupanc. Her  Forever Bed was part of an exhibitionat at Rossana Orlandi’s curated exhibition in Museo Bagatti Valsecchi during Milan Design Week 2014 this month.

The limited edition of Love Me More bedding and the Forever Bed by Nika Zupanc were developed in cooperation with Dormeo and commissioned by Rossana Orlandi.

"While closed, the bed has a key that resembles and underlines the idea of a ‘credenza’ – a small, hidden sacred place where we hide the things we love and fear at the same time. The Forever Bed opens up with a big key that also serves as a supporting leg when the bed is open. The mattress and the cushions are made using the Octaspring technology by Dormeo", explains the designer.

Milan 2014 - trends that continue from last year

I was impressed to find that many of the populr trends in interior design continue successfully their life at this year's Milan Design Week. Let's mention just two of them for today:
Copper:

In fact the two trends are interconnected because copper reflects exactly this love for soft colours.
