2010 Design & Color Trends forecasts

As my regular visitors already know, Trendoffice is the blog where they can always find the latest and most professional information on trends in interior and furniture design - from all the world.  Here is the next one:

BEHR announced 2010 Design & Color Trends:

"Responding to a world bursting with change, innovation and diversity, four distinctive trends emerge: Soft Structure – the softer side of modern:
Taking their cues from the fashion world, neutrals become cool and complex. This compelling palette goes beyond the boundaries of conventional gray and taupe. Expanded hues of mushroom, stone and white are enhanced even more with subtle undertones of blue and lavender.

Artisan Voyage – a vibrant cultural exploration:
Travel ignites our imagination and helps us form ideas for creative expression. The details we remember from our sojourns away can be profound or subtle. Each memory recalls a different impression captured in the moment: the delicate taste of tea, the raucous sound of city traffic, the luxurious feel of fine silk on our skin, the pungent scent of spices, the grand view of cityscapes.

Dark Glamour – a glamorous take on industrial style:
Dark hues set a mood of Gothic intrigue. Vivid, jewel-toned accents enliven the space, preventing a somber air. Antique white, smudged black and smoky gray combine with gemstone garnet and jade to create rich, alluring palettes.

(Although I understand that this style can be regarded as suitable for a time of recession, in my opinion it will not help to overcome the resulting depression, and, having in mind that our way of living depends so much on everything that sussounds us, I would hardly recommend it to my customers. Glamour - yes, but glamour connected with the luxury of the natural materials, good quality and authenticity. )

and Farm House Craft – a fusion of urban and rural.

Capturing the essence of growth and renewal is a palette of earthbound colors. Deep succulent greens found in verdant gardens mix with the lush, vivid hues of springtime fields. Accompanying them is a deep brown reminiscent of turned earth. This organic pairing of colors brings forth a stress-free atmosphere of living.
A provincial assortment of furnishings intersects with modern sensibility. Appliances are high-tech stainless steel. Cabinets are polished, blonde maple, while hardwood floors are constructed from reclaimed timbers. Decorative accessories are found in patina copper and pewter grays. Hand-woven baskets are filled with just-picked seasonal fruits and vegetables. Pots of herbs bathing in the sunlight are ready to be added to the next meal ..."
My expectations are that this is the style that will get the most popularity in the coming year.

The Newest Trend in Kitchen Appliances

Warming and cooling drawers are not that new, but may be you have still not discovered how comfortable they are: warming drawers keep counters uncluttered by providing an area to store prepared food that is not ready to be served, while cooling drawers (or undercounter refrigerators) act as another refrigerator, creating extra room in your standing fridge. Another useful feature: cooling drawers can also be placed near the food preparation area, giving you easier access to condiments and other refrigerated ingredients.
The newest trend in appliance drawers is in-drawer microwaves.

They can be placed in islands, under countertops and underneath cooktops or wall ovens. In addition to being very comfortable they obviously  are also less obtrusive, as they don’t interrupt the design of wall cabinetry.

Rough Luxe Design Ideas

Get stylish with organic ring pattern -this beautiful
Set of 6 Eucalyptus Drink Coasters

can be your way to be in step with the latest trend in interior design - rough luxe.

"Now, it's hitting our homes.." Channel 4 announces. How to get it? Here is their advice:

"Distress Your Furniture -You can buy furniture ready distressed, or buy old pieces in junk shops and distress furniture yourself easily (by painting, allowing to dry, then rubbing back with sandpaper). "

"You needn't go the whole way with this look - just one large distressed item in a room, such as old shutters or a piece of furniture, will give a hint of rough luxe style to a room." - or a floor, I would add, as in the image below (from Remodelista Daily)

Trends: Bathroom becomes source of emotional multi–sensorial experiences

Contemporary bathroom is since long ago not just a mere washroom and even not only a relax space, it is also intended to be a main source of emotional multi–sensorial experiences.Tubs are getting more sculptural and designed to occupy the center of the room, "compact but sophisticated multifunctional volumes or theatrical recessed pools. Between a sense of intimacy that still clings to nostalgic references, or the desire to astonish and to share a collective ritual of wellbeing in a domestic mini-spa.", as magazine Interni describes this trend.
Two luxurious examples:
Left - the new Techstone bath from INFINITO, with its sinuous shapes and soft and smooth surfaces seems to stimulate tactile emotions. Techstone is a compound material formed by a high percentage of natural minerals (ATH deriving from bauxite) and a low percentage of very pure polyester and acrylic polymers. It is an inert, non–allergenic and non–toxic, recyclable materialthat can be 100% restored, practically fireproof and with excellent resistance to UV rays.
The Faraway interior mini-pool (top), designed by Ludovica and Roberto Palomba for Kos is a concept spa piece. As you descend the steps into the pool you’ll feel the tension wash out of your body. Gentle ripples are created by the blower, cleverly placed under the steps.
And, one of my favourates, Urquiola's Bathroom for Two for Axor - is also a real example of the "collective ritual of wellbeing" trend mentioned above.

Cellphone That Becomes A Slap Bracelet

Now this is something I am very happy with - finally we don't have to search for our cell phone or wonder where to put it: LG Helix Cellphone, created by the designer Rob Luna, is also a slap bracelet. LG Helix incorporates flexible circuits and touchscreen and you can change the handset’s functions by shifting the LED strips.

2010 Color Forecast from Sherwin-Williams

It is again this time of the year when we begin to expect with curiosity the new trends coming  with the new year and when numerous forecasts appear. Here is one that I find very attractive and credible -  the 2010 Color Forecast from Sherwin-Williams. Why - because I quite agree with their explanation:

Rooted  - mystery, enduring, natural:

"It's human instinct to seek the safety of the tribe. In today's complicated world, there's something deeply satisfying about re-exploring the world's oldest, most enduring cultures. African, Aboriginal and Native American influences are converging to create a new tribal style with a drumbeat all its own. The colors are rich and earthy, with a hint of mystery. The appeal is as natural as the elements."

Refreshed - exuberant, fresh, optimism

"Tropical blooms. Sunny days. Playful exploration. It's time to take a vacation and let our cares melt away. Happy spaces are here again, bringing fresh florals, bright juicy colors and exuberant combinations. It's the kaleidoscopic sprit of the '60s married to the jewel tones of the '80s, with a global twist. Cultural influences and motifs mingle freely, creating a bohemian mosiac that sings in perfect harmony."

Treasured - aging, layers, artisan

This one is my favorite.
Beyond reconnecting to our roots, today’s financial strains are leading us to rediscover the treasures of yesteryear. The time-tested shades of the Treasured collection evoke the warm, comforting memories of times past. Many of the colors are muted shades of brighter tones.

"A throwaway society? That's so yesterday. We're now making savvy, resourceful use of what we have, discovering untold stories in exposed, painted layers. From flea-market finds to artisan-made pieces, imperfections can lend rich character to our environments. The palette reflects the beauty of natural aging, mellowing and weathering, evoking quality materials that have stood the test of time and become heirlooms."

Simplified - translucent, structure, sophisticated

"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." That timeless wisdom from Leonardo da Vinci is now a modern mantra. Less is clearly the new more. But the aesthetic is artful rather than austere, with well-tailored lines and sheer, translucent materials that reveal shape and structure. Clarity and integrity are critical. We need to know and trust what we're bringing into our environments. The hues are calm, subtle and nuanced, with undertones that shift according to their surroundings, for easy versatility.

Now, this one is something I would hardly accept - do you really think Leonardo would have used this color palette?
